SSPX & The Structure of the Catholic Church: Ep. 3

Breaking down the Pints with Aquinas interview with Mr. John Salza- part 3/9

Last episode ended with the definition of schism according to Canon 751. With that ringing in our ears, we come back to the discussion with the line “The SSPX rejects communion with 99.9% of the Roman Church.” It’s sad, but true.

After having grappled with this application of schism, the conversation turns to exploring the source of papal and episcopal authority, which is the most important take-away idea of this episode and takes up a large portion of this segment. There are echoes of Episode 2 mixed throughout this part of the interview.

Other topics covered in this episode are: Archbishop Lefebvre’s illicit episcopal consecrations of 1988, the subsequent splintering of groups from the SSPX. Near the end Mr. Fradd delivers a preview of common objections in support of the SSPX as a preview of more things to come. The hits in this one just keep coming. Enjoy!
