SSPX & The Structure of the Catholic Church: Ep. 2

By

Breaking down the Pints with Aquinas interview with Mr. John Salza- part 2/9

Episode 2 picks up with the definition of Juridic Person according to Canon Law, and dives again into the relationship between bishops, their flocks, and the SSPX within their dioceses.

The core idea of this episode is introduced through the question “What is the Catholic Church?” Most people only consider the Catholic Church through the lens of every day life. Mr. Salza tries to elevate that perspective by introducing the underlying set of laws that give the Catholic Church it’s structure, and connect it to its Divine origin. If Grace allows humans a participation in the divine life of God and the Catholic Church was established by Christ to act as the source of Grace to humanity, there has to be a structure ordering and protecting that activity of the Church which directly touches the spiritual reality of its members. That structure is Canon Law.

Other topics explored in this episode are examples of how this core idea applies to the SSPX, abuses of the liturgy within the church, and the technicalities of the origin and suppression of the SSPX. There’s a lot to process in this episode. Enjoy!
